INTRODUCE OUR FOUNDERS: WILLIAM WILLER

My name is William Willer. Christ follower, Husband, Father, Filmmaker, Musician, Gun nerd, and now watch enthusiast/Co-Admin of this group!
As a film crew worker for the past 8 years, keeping track of time has been a must. Its a crazy hectic industry and keeping yourself on the dot with out your face being in you phone is a struggle. Growing up, I always admired watches, with my dad having a Casio Wave Ceptor diver that he still wears to this day. I love the memories, history and practicality that time pieces have represented throughout the years.
MY TRADE:
I’ve always been a storyteller a heart, I was raise on a steady diet of great stories and living books as child, and my passion for the imagination and artistry of filmmaking came about at a very young age. Being homeschooled I was given some great opportunities to follow that calling and have been working on set since I was 15 years old. I’ve done (and still am doing) my time in the trenches working in almost every department of film.
I’ve been blessed to have great mentors and teacher who trained me well in the art of screenwriting. Currently I’m blessed to be a Creative Director at @cinemastoryproductions creating commercial and corporate films, but am still pursuing my personal film projects on the side, getting ready to produce my first feature for a friend this winter.
THE (very small) COLLECTION:
I love the practical side of watches, but also the history and design elements. The beauty of a thing that can be functional, mechanical, but also beautiful and aesthetic is amazing to me. Being a history and film nerd my goal is to solidify all of those interests in my pieces…. Someday, when I can afford to. 😂 Of course if you saw the words “FILMMAKER” and “ARTIST” above. You know that my budget is very limited.
The first watch I bough with my own money was an Invicta Pro Diver. I know, it’s cringe. But I had an amazon coupon and didn’t know any better. It still has a special place as my first watch and as the watch I wore at my wedding. Also after 4 years it’s held up great even with some aggressive set wear (where I scuffed the crystal on a concrete wall). It’s come back around as my daily now that I have a sick Zane’s leather NATO that my boi Hunter Wealot gave me.
Due to that fateful scuff… I went to Walmart on my first day off from that shoot and got the legendary G-Shock 5600e. It stayed on my wrist for a solid 3 years night and day before the OEM Strap gave out. It still is my go to set watch just because of its uncompromising bomb-proofness. Im sporting a el cheap amazon strap on it, and could seriously use a recommendation for a new strap for it 😂
My latest purchase was the Casio A168WA-1, just a classic little watch, part of my grey man kit lol. It’s just so quirky and 80s retro and one of the best that 20 bucks can buy. I love its small size for office wear, but It often gets benched for set wear just because the chrome is SO shiny it reflects everywhere when a light hits it.
THE NEAR FUTURE:
Growing up by the ocean in Florida, I love the aesthetic of dive watches. I’d really love to pick up a super bombproof quartz diver. I’ve been looking at the Citizen Promaster series, a used Sangin Merlin, the Vaer DS4 and even the good old Casio MDV106. Send me your recommendations ! (remember artist budget, hence the Casio’s lol)
Another aesthetic I love is a bronze watch with a good patina. Would love in the next few years to pick up a Baltic AQUASCAPHEBRONZE and wear it in as a great pice to pass on to the kids.
A funky one that’s caught my eye lately is the Vostok Amphibia, a wild design and some awesome history. Would love to have as a great conversation starter for not a ton of cash.
GRAILS:
As a girl dad and a fan of the film “Interstellar”, my realistic grail is a Hamilton Khaki Field MURPH. I love the film, I love the design. Hoping for it to be my go to field watch that I can pass on to my eldest girl when she grows up.
My much farther out grail is the Tudor Back Bay variant, I’ve always loved that dive watch thing and I love the practical history of Tudor. Would love for that to be one for one of my future sons to remember me by. Maybe I get one for my first big feature film directorial paycheck.
And one day, if I ever make it in the big leagues, and I have the funds lying around. Would love an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, because who wouldn’t?
-Will
